The following table lists the results of the annual (Fédération Internationale de Football Association) FIFA world player of the year awards. The best player is decided by votes cast by international team managers. Each manager is given 3 votes, the best player is awarded 5, second player, 3 and third player 1 point. All the points are totted up and the winner is the player who has totalled the greatest number of points. From 2004, points were also awarded by the captains of national football teams
